Your body wasn't built to sit 8 hours a day.
A 10-minute oscillation ritual that undoes the damage of desk life, without a gym, gear, or a workout playlist. Just you, your living room, and ten minutes.

Your office chair keeps you in one shape.
Eight hours of sitting means eight hours of very little movement. Sound familiar?
The Desk Mobility Self-Check
Notice the 4 areas a long day at a desk tends to affect most — and a drill to practice for each.
The Daily Reset
Three short rituals. One unwound body.

1
Morning · Wake the spine
Five minutes before your first coffee. Gentle oscillation takes the spine through easy range and works the deep stabilizer muscles along the back of the body before you sit down.
- Gentle spinal range of motion in 90 seconds
- Posterior chain activation
- Better posture all morning

2
Midday · Undo the damage
Three minutes between meetings. A hip opener and shoulder reset that gives you a movement break in the middle of a sitting day.
- Hip flexor release while standing
- Shoulder + thoracic mobility
- Reset between back-to-back calls

3
Evening · Wind down
Five minutes to wind down. Full-body oscillation that takes the whole body through easy, controlled range at the end of the day.
- Nervous system downshift
- Releases stored upper-back tension
- Falls into the wind-down routine you already have

What eight hours of sitting actually does to your range
Sitting is not evil, but eight hours of one shape is. Hips stay flexed, the mid back stops rotating and extending, the shoulders drift forward, and by Thursday reaching overhead feels like a task rather than a reflex.
The practical option is not a gym membership you will not use. It is two five-minute standing blocks a day, done in the space beside your desk, with a tool that gives you something to work against.
This tends to suit you if
- You sit for most of the working day
- Your mid back feels locked by mid-afternoon
- Overhead reaching has quietly got harder
- You will not realistically drive to a gym for mobility work
- You want something that lives beside the desk, not in a cupboard
What a daily reset looks like
- Five minutes before the first coffee, five when the laptop shuts
- Rotation that comes back into the mid back rather than the lower one
- Shoulders that travel overhead without hitching
- Hips that do not feel welded after a long call
- No mat, no floor work, no changing clothes
Why a resistance bar beats stretching at your desk
Desk stretches feel good for about four minutes. The reason they fade is that passively reaching a position does not teach you to hold it, so the shape you spend eight hours in wins by default.
Working through the same positions against oscillating resistance means the stabilising muscles around the shoulder blade and mid back have to switch on. Range you can actively control is the range that tends to stick.
Light or Medium both work for desk resets. Light is gentler for twice-daily use, Medium gives more room if you also train.

Desk mobility questions
How much space do I need?
A few feet of clear floor and enough overhead room to press the bar up. It can be done beside a desk without moving anything.
How quickly does it help?
Treat each session as movement practice. Any lasting change depends on consistency, comfort, and your starting point.
Is twice a day too much?
No. Short, low-intensity mobility work is designed for daily use. Twice for five minutes generally beats once for twenty.
What if I already have back pain?
Stiffness responds well to movement, but pain is different information. If symptoms are sharp, radiating or new, speak to a qualified clinician before starting.
